Wow, Emigrating Is Confusing!

Posted in Travel & Moving with tags , on July 8, 2008 by sweetrelease

Well, we are hoping to emigrate to Uruguay at the end of this month, beginning of next so I’m trying to get all the documents that I need straightened out.

After months of looking for info on the ‘net, I ended up with a lot of inconclusive and contradictory info. Really rather annoying :/

In normal circumstances, you need to present the following:

  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate, duly legalized by Uruguayan Consulate closest to or at place of birth
  • Certified copy of Marriage/Divorce Certificate (if applicable), duly legalized by Uruguayan Consulate closest to or at place of marriage
  • Good Conduct Certificate issued by country’s National Police (i.e. FBI for U.S.) of country of birth or that you have lived in for 5 years, duly legalized by Uruguayan Consulate closest to or at place of residency
  • In addition a proof of income will be required, which MUST BE of a minimum of USD 500 (it is recommended to have a bit more than that). A Health Certificate will also be requested by Immigrations, which only is obtainable at specific Institutions in Uruguay. Tetanus vaccination is mandatory in Uruguay and will be necessary for all applicants (Vaccination Certificate from Abroad will be accepted). Blood and urine test will be made to all applicants over 15 years of age. All women between 21 and 65 years of age have to provide a PAP Test and all women between 40 and 65 a Mammography as well (tests from abroad will be accepted if no older than 3 months).

All above mentioned documents will be retained and NOT returned

It seems that our case is slightly more specialist than some people’s, so it has been harder to find decent info. Anyone reading this that may be having the same trouble, Sociedad Southron is a very good forum for getting correct info. I’ve only just found this site myself, so started asking questions immediately!

As I said, our circumstances are a little different due to the fact that my husband’s father was Uruguayan. This should actually make this whole process easier as my hubby should be counted as a UY nation himself, but someone on the forum above mentioned that this law was to be changed in the near future, and may not be applicable soon…*sigh*

So, I think we’re back to square one*cry*

What I really wanted to know for myself was, if being the wife of a UY national would mean that I wouldn’t have to declare my income, etc either. But so far, no answers on that front!

It shouldn’t matter too much because we will be renting out our UK home to provide this monthly income in UY, apparently this should be sufficient.

We’ve been told that we need to show the Rental Contract, Bank Account Number that the rent goes into, and the cards that we use to withdraw money in UY. I’ve been told that we shouldn’t deposit it in UY, not sure why that is though!! Would be nicer not to have to bother…

Hopefully we’ll get through this soon!

Still need my passport back first :/

Can’t wait to go though…

Waiting To Go…

Can’t wait to go to Uruguay now.
I keep seeing pictures of other people’s travels, and I just can’t wait.

It’s my sister’s wedding in a week, after that we are free to move! But then there’s the little issue of touching up the paint work and fixing fences, then getting people to rent the house. Oh, then getting passports and visas sorted :/ I hope it doesn’t take too long, I’ve been waiting 2 years for this as it is!

Think I would like to get a proper camera, then I can start taking some decent pictures! I have a good eye for what looks good, but I’ve always had a rubbish camera :(

Hopefully then I can start travel writing and using my own pictures to go with the articles :)

Oh well *fingers crossed* that we can it all done before August is out…
